How to Care for Coloured Hair

Whether your hair is blonde, pink, red or even blue, you’ll know only too well just how damaging colouring your hair can be.

From parched, frazzled locks to split ends and dull, lifeless hair, hair dyes can leave both you and your locks in desperate need of a little TLC.

Yet, if you are struggling with parched and dry hair and feel like you have tried every mask on the market, there is hope yet! Our award-winning NOAH range is gentle and kind to coloured hair, helping to strengthen from root to tip.

Rather than being made from harsh chemicals which strip the hair of its natural oils (our natural hair products never contain silicones, parabens, paraffin, mineral oils, DEA or SLS) the NOAH range uses pure and essential oils to work with your hair type, working to make it stronger, healthier and more luscious.

If you do dye your hair, then here are our top tips on how to treat your coloured locks:

Protect:

However much you want to run into the sun, always make sure you protect your hair first (and wear an SPF on your skin too, of course!). Hair needs as much protection from the sun as our skin, particularly if your hair is coloured. Cover your head with a hat or scarf, or invest in an UV protection spray which is aimed at hair. In the same way, always cover your hair if you are swimming!

Avoid Chemicals:

Just because a shampoo or conditioner is marketed for coloured hair does not mean it will be good for you! Instead, look to avoid chemicals and nasties, which will ultimately strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it even more dry and damaged. Sulphates in particular can turn coloured hair to straw, and can also leave blonde hair looking brassy.

Instead, try a natural formula, such as our NOAH range of shampoos. Our organic Colour Protection Shampoo contains strengthening rice phytokeratine and has been formulated to maximise the effects of hair colouring and to prolong its intensity. It also protects and moisturises, as well as restricting and repairing damaged hair by creating a natural, protective film to create volume, softness, elasticity and shine.

For hair that has been left lifeless and fine by colour treating, the zesty NOAH Citrus Fruits Volumising Shampoo can delicately cleanse the scalp, while giving you body and volume - all while smelling like a Mediterranean holiday!

Wait to Wash:

Try to wait at least three days to wash your hair after having it coloured. Another big tip is to let it dry naturally to minimise damage, and avoid styling if possible. If you cannot live without your hair drier or straighteners, try applying some protective spray or serum first, such as our NOAH Liquid Crystals With Argan Oil.

You should also aim to wash your hair no more than two to three times a week to help preserve colour, and use lukewarm or cold - if you can stand it! - water.

Indulge in a Mask:

If you colour your hair, indulging in a weekly hair mask can help to nourish and condition. Our NOAH Colour Protection Mask with Rice Phytokeratin is the perfect hydrating treat for dry, coloured hair, and can restore moisture and vitality. It is silicone-free and works to regenerate the hair. It is also formulated and nickel tested to enhance hair colour and to prolong its duration and intensity.

Get a Trim:

Colour treated hair needs regular trimming to stay looking thick, healthy and vibrant. Try to have your hair cut as often as possible and, if budget can afford, talk to your hairdresser about a conditioning in-salon Olaplex treatment.
